There and Back Again

Long Arm of the Hutt

It was another hot day on Tatooine. Tyring to escape the heat, our group of adventurers entered a canteena for some R&R. While shooting the breeze, we notice several armed Gamorrean guards enter and begin speaking with the bartender. As sweat drips down from his brow, the bartender looks directly at us and points his finger in our direction.

It appears as our R&R will soon come to an end. If you saw our rap sheet with the local gangster Hutt, Teemo, you would quickly observe that none in our party are currently in good terms with Teemo. Therefore, we safely assumed the guards had come looking for us.

Having to think on our feet, we rapidly ducked inside several booths in an attempt to buy us some precious time. We immediately began preparations for the impending attack. It didn’t take long for the guards to recognize our technician droid, LE-19. They hastened their hobble, as fast as Gamorreans are able, toward our group. Knowing that there’s no negotiation with a Gamorrean, Beck, as soon as they entered range, took the first shot with his blaster rifle. It caught the closest guard by surprise and was a lethal blow. He dropped to the ground, down for the count. The guards quickly returned fire striking both Arc and Nig. This, I believe, proves that the smuggler shot first.

Nig, charged the next Gamorrean and attempted to stun him this gloves. Luckily he remembered to charge them because his attack was successful enough to bring the guard squeeling to his knees unable to move. Gresbu was able to take one out with his vibroblade in close quarters combat. After having witnessed two colleagues fall in quick succession, the remaining guards began to flee while squealing in fear.

Luckily, after several failed attempts the group is able to stop the guards, permanently. The guards did not check-out of the canteena. The groups whereabouts were safe, for now, and there were no calls for reinforcements. With smoke wafting out of their barrels, the group is greeted by a slow clap from the canteena patrons.

After the clapping subsides, the bartender motions for the party to approach the bar. He congratulates them for eliminating these “pests” and provides some valuable information. He tells them of a freighter docked in a nearby spaceport and informs them to hurry as they’re likely going to be pursued by Imperial troops. Before they leave the canteena, the bartender lets them in on some bad news, the ship is spaceworthy but is incapable of hyperspace without a replacement part.

The party leaves the canteena and heads for the local parts dealer. The parts dealer says he does have the needed part installed, but it is already spoken for. LE-19 was able to convince the dealer that he was commissioned by the Hutt to procure and install the part on the ship. They left with the part, the dealer expecting a later payment from the Hutt.

They make way toward the spaceport. As they approach they notice two guards outside the spaceport. Glaring beyond the guards they notice a YT-1300 freighter docked, and secured, to the spaceport. They will have to discover a way to release the docking clamps from the ship before it will be airworthy.

“What a piece of junk!”
“She’ll make point five past lightspeed. She may not look like much, but she’s got it where it counts, kid”

The group decided to head for the spaceport control building to see if the clamps could be released from there. As they approach this building they, again, notice that this building is secured by two sentry droids at the entrance. LE-19 and Beck decide to do some ‚Äéreconnaissance around the building while the others appear to be occupied at the main entrance. They discover a side entrance and a locked door. LE-19 uses Becks’ slicer tools and successfully opens the door. After entering through the door they wind up in an office and peer further into the complex. They discover something similar to an air-traffic control tower. Several people are busy at work at their computer terminals and pay no attention, nor do they notice, LE-19 or Beck. LE-19 decides to enter the room and approach a computer terminal—acting as if he belongs there. Luckily he is ignored by all and is able to disarm the clamps holding their getaway vehicle in the spaceport. He quickly makes an exit.

The party reassembles and heads for the spaceport. En route, they are stopped by stormtroopers. Nig lobs a stun grenade, however, in his haste, he overshoots the mark and the grenade goes over the troopers’ heads. Gresbu then tosses another stun grenade at the group of stormtroopers and it explodes at their feet. Three of the six troopers fall prone, stunned, and incapacitated. Everyone makes a run for it and tries to scale a nearby building as an escape route. All but LE-19 and Beck make it on the roof. Finally, with the help of the other party members, they are pulled to the roof. The remaining stormtroopers are overheard calling in reinforcements. Nig tosses another stun grenade, this time he is able to stun two of the stormtroopers and sees another three arrive at the scene.

Continuing their escape they all jump down from the roof to the ground below. They are now standing in front of the spaceport. The same two guards are still posted at the spaceport entrance. They cautiously approach and inform the guards that they are here to deliver the replacement part for the freighter docked in the bay. A deception check was successful, therefore the guards allow the party to pass without hesitation.

Thinking they’ve just gained access to their getaway vehicle scott free they hustle toward the boarding ramp. To their surprise, they’re greeted by a Transdoshan smuggler. “What are you doing on my ship?” he asked. The group tried to be sneaky and claimed to be delivering the part to repair the ship’s hyperdrive. They offered him the part and a small delivery fee. He agreed to pay, resentfully, but seeing their opportunity, the group tried to get greedy. They increased the price by several hundred credits. This caught him off guard and he said that he would have to call it in and proceeded to go up the ramp inside his ship. Acting quickly. everyone followed him up the ramp and into the spacecraft closing the ramp behind them

Nig quicky attempted to stun him with his gloves but failed. Not all was lost because he was able to knock him prone where he was jumped—gangsta style. LE-19 headed for engineering to begin repairs on the hyperdrive. Gresbu goes straight to the cockpit to begin his pre-flight checks.

“TK-421, why aren’t you at your post?! TK-421, do you copy?”

All of this commotion has alerted the guards posted at the entrance and they approached the vessel to investigate. They lowered the boarding ramp just as the Transdoshan was incapacitated. Pooling all of their strength, the three party members were able to roll his seemingly lifeless body down the boarding ramp which toppled the security droids at the bottom of the ramp.

It was at this time the intercom was queued to Gresbu’s voice, “The Imperials are sending reinforcements! ETA 2 minutes. Prepare for take-off!”

“Boring conversation anyway…Luke! We’re going to have company!”

Arc and Beck decide which turret to man while Nig begins to clear the remainder of the ship. Gresbu blasts the YT-1300 out of the dock, through the atmosphere, and into deep space. Almost immediately they are greeted by four Tie Fighters who shoot on sight, striking the freighter. Gresbu maneuvers the vessel to better position the gunners who return fire. On the first volley they manage to destroy one Tie and vitally wound another.

After a few very successful dice rolls, LE-19 was able to repair the hyperdrive and signals Gresbu that it has been repaired. Gresbu engages the hypderdrive….

A Wild Lylek Appears!

Shortly after engaging hyperdrive engine, Gresbu began to hear audible warning alarms in the cockpit. While trying to find the source of the alarms, he noticed that all of the text in the cockpit was in Trandoshian. Being a fairly common spacecraft Gresbu searched for the controls to switch the text into his native tongue. While Gresbu searched for a way to switch the text into his native tongue, the spacecraft shuddered and exited hyperspace. However, while he was searching for the controls the spacecraft shuddered, groaned, and exited hyperspace. As the ship came to a screeching halt, a loud groaning sound was heard somewhere on the ship.

Gresbu, wanting to bring this to the attention of the crew, queued the intercom and suggested that they begin to clear the ship for stowaways. Nig Yelos and Beck Arflame begin to systematically inspect the cargo holds while Arc Beitor proceeds in the opposite direction. Nig and Beck notice a foul smell emanating from somewhere in the main cargo hold—something similar to rotting flesh.

Against their better judgment, they begin to search the cargo hold in an attempt to discover the origin of the horrible smell. After several minutes, they are able to discover a hidden access panel. As the panel opens, both Nig and Beck are taken back by the smell. Because neither can take the stench, they enlist LE-19, the droid without any olfactory sensors, to further investigate the compartment. After determining that the compartment was not occupied…LE-19 grabs three rotting Wookie pelts and displays them to Nig and Beck. Nig, using his streetwise skill, quickly determines that these pelts do not have any worthwhile value on the open market. He asks LE-19 to toss them out of the airlock so the environment can begin to return to somewhat of a normal smell.

And I thought they smelled bad… on the outside!

Once LE-19 has left with the pelts, Nig and Beck begin to search for other compartments. After closely studying the walls they, as they suspected, find yet another hidden compartment. With very little effort they’re able to get the “locked” compartment open and discover some supplies and equipment inside. Here’s what they find:

  • 2 Blaster Rifles
  • 1 Heavy Blaster Rifle
  • 1 Heavy Blaster Pistol
  • 2 Stun Grenades
  • 1,000 credits
  • 7 pair of Binders
  • 1 pair of Electrobinoculars
  • 1 Med Pack
  • 2 Glow rods
  • Trandoshian Respirator
  • Scanner
  • Toolkit

While this business with the Wookie pelts is transpiring, Arc discovers a prisoner aboard the ship. He confronts a Twi’Lek, in binders, in the #3 cargo hold. The Twi’Lek looks to be in pretty bad shape as he is malnourished and has several wounds from his imprisonment. Arc, being the natural skeptic, begins to interrogate the prisoner.

Back up in the cockpit, Gresbu is fiddling around with the controls and, luckily, is able to get the displays into his language. After this is complete, he is able to discern that the warnings are coming from the fuel gauge. It looks like they’re low on fuel and will not be able to reach their intended destination. They’ll have to redirect their course for a system in close proximity. Looks like they’ll have to set course for Ryloth. As Gresbu enters these coordinates in to the navi-computer, he notices another device…this ship is equipped with a transponder! It must be reporting their location to Teemo the Hutt! He engages the ship’s engines and they’re in for a 6 hour ride to Ryloth. He leaves to tell the rest of the crew.

During the six-hour flight, they all gather around the prisoner B’ura B’an aboard their ship and question him. After they determine that he’s a victim here and safe to release, they unfasten his binders and Nig, using his medical skills, begins to address his wounds. B’ura B’an just so happens to have family on Ryloth and invites the crew to his home for fuel and supplies.

Nearly six hours later, Gresbu hears the proximity sensor warnings in the cockpit, they’re nearing Ryloth. As the takes the ship out of hyperspace he notices another ship just behind them also exit hyperspace. Remembering the transponder aboard their newly commandeered ship, they attempt to hail the ship which jumped behind them. This mystery vessel responds to their hail by laser fire! Gresbu quickly orders the crew to man the laser cannons and positions the ship for an attack run.

After several shots back and forth the pursuing vessel is last seen smoking entering Ryloth’s atmosphere. Using B’ura B’an’s planetside coordinates, we also descent through the atmosphere and lad at Nabat spaceport. Once we arrive at the spaceport we immediately go to the control tower and inquire about the whereabouts of the spaceship we nearly shot out of space. The control tower provides us with coordinates of the downed ship, it went down in the desert.

B’ura B’an convinces us to follow him to his home and and introduces us to a few of his fellow “operatives”. Newmeen and Nynkablo. They question us briefly and make us an offer for their services. They offer to help track down the downed ship if we also help them track down some local thugs in their area. We accept and sleep through the night. While we sleep LE-19 oversees repairs to our ship and ensure that we receive the fuel that we bargained for. LE-19 also performs upgrades to our antiquated navicomputer—it was severely out of date with galaxy maps.

Early in the morning, we are awoken by several Twi’Leks who tell us to get ready as we’re going to honor our bargain to rid this town of some thugs. We board two speeders and are informed that we’re heading toward a mine.

As we’re ascending a mountain toward the mine, we’re surprised by another speeder which blocks our path around the bend. We have to slam on the brakes to avoid a collision and are dug into the sand. This speeder is occupied by a Gand bounty hunter, 4 human bounty hunters, and an all too familiar face…the Trandoshian Trex!

“Drop your weapons! You stole my ship!”

A raging battle ensues. Nig, Arc, Beck all take cover around a large rock in their close proximity. Gresbu takes the first shot but, in his haste, misses. Trex returns fire and luckily experiences a weapon malfunction. His blaster rifle is jammed.

After several minutes and blaster bolt volleys many are wounded, one human bounty hunters is dead another is severely wounded. Suddenly, there was a blaster bolt that stopped the battle. Arc, fired a shot and hit Trex who immediately drops his weapon and slouches over. Once the remaining enemy force notices Trex slouch they all, but the severely wounded human bounty hunter, retreat into a nearby cave. As they retreat, Arc approaches the remaining bounty hunter and intimidates him into surrendering.

Meanwhile Gresbu and Nig are sawing off Trex limbs to ensure that he stays dead this time. Gresbu takes Trex’s head as a souvenir. As they’re busy doing some clean-up more blaster fire erupts from the cave entrance. They are able to see the Gand and the remaining enemy force shooting in their direction. All take cover.

Beck and Arc return fire and head toward the cave entrance. The enemy retreats further into the cave and are pursued by our forces. Gresbu, Nig, and LE-19 stick behind and attempt to dig our speeder out of the sand.

As they enter the cave they hear a loud screech we all shudder in fear. A wild Lylek appears! The Lylek chomps the remaining human bounty hunter and impales the Gand and retreats, it just found its meal.

All of the forces exit the cave to find that Gresbu, Nig, and LE-19 have dug our speeder out of the sand. After exploring a bit around the bend in the road, they discover another speeder left by the bounty hunters. We all pile in the speeders and make our way toward Numeen…

Smoke 'Em If You Got 'Em

As we make our way down the mountain, we discover an abandoned speeder. We, feeling a bit crowded in our current speeder, stop to investigate. It appears that this speeder belonged to the recently deceased bounty hunters. It was not far from the cave and the engine is still warm. How lucky are we… they even left the keys in the ignition! Upon further investigation, we also discover:

  • 2 medpacks
  • 1 medkit
  • 2 emergency repair kits

Half of us hop in the newly commandeered speeder and continue on our way back to Numeen. As we arrive we are greeted as heroes, having just vanquished a large faction of their oppressors. Each of us are offered shelter, food, and water. Later that evening the townsfolk host a celebration party around a bonfire. We all celebrate our victory and head for our bunks early just before dawn.

A few hours later, we are awoken by Buraban, who says that their scouts have found a larger group of bounty hunters assembling for an attack. They must have received word that five of their group have gone missing—and we’re the likely candidates for their disappearance.

Buraban offers to lead our away team which consists of LE-19, Gresbu, Beck, Brandon’s Character (who currently remains nameless), and three more from the town. We journey from Numeen for several minutes before we reach the bounty hunter’s camp. As we approach the walled-off campsite we are greeted by one Aqualish and two Human sentries.

Gresbu asks to meet with the leader of their group, and attempts to pass off that they have a business proposal. The guards do not allow them to pass and say they are under orders not to allow any passage. Sensing that we’re not going to get anywhere with these guards, Beck gives the signal to the three Twi’leks. They quickly hop off the speeder and begin firing at the guards. As they are occupied, Gresbu hits the throttle on the speeder and rams the gate. The gate flies open and the remaining party enters the bounty hunter’s compound.

As they enter they notice several rows of huts and tents within the walls. Four huts along the western perimeter and another four huts along the eastern perimeter. They also see an igloo-shaped building far away, past the rows of huts, along the northern wall. As Gresbu brings the speeder to a stop, they witness a large group of enemies emerge from the igloo-shaped building in a hurry—they must be wandering what all of the commotion is about.

Our party jumps from our speeder and takes cover on opposite sides of the compound. Arc and LE-19 go West, Gresbu and Brandon’s Character go East, splitting-up ducking behind the huts southern side. Having just witnessed our group jump from and take cover, the bounty hunters follow suit. They run toward the buildings on the north side and take cover. A group of bounty hunters go West and another group goes East, each taking cover on the tents northern side. The last one, the apparent leader of the group, stands out in the open and shouts commands at his troops pointing in different directions.

The next thing we notice, there are blaster bolts coming from three different directions. Luckily the group must have still been a bit startled as their bolts hit the buildings around us, nobody is injured.

Noticing that our group is split up, Brandon’s character motions to regroup on the East side to strengthen our numbers. BC and Gresbu provide covering fire and allow Arc and LE-19 to rush over. During the covering fire, several of the bounty hunter group also take advantage of this time and make an attempt to flank our position.

Gresbu takes special time to aim and strikes one of the advancers down. As we’re regrouping, Gresbu fires again and takes another out with a well-placed shot…his lucky rabbit foot must be working today. The bounty hunters are down to what looks like seven.

After several unsuccessful volleys of blaster bolts from both sides, Arc decides that he needs to get a favorable vantage point. Therefore, LE-19 and Arc,decide to again split from our group and attempt to flank our enemies. BC and Gresbu provide them covering fire and BC shoots and kills another enemy. Arc and LE-19 proceed west and move up a row toward the Igloo.

Sensing our advance, Angel Drombb, leader of the bounty hunters, hollers a “Retreat!” order for all of his troops. They all make a run for the door and rush inside for cover. A few blaster bolts strike the outside of the now discovered cantina as they enter missing their targets.

Our group now discovers that they have some spare time and therefore decide to search the unexplored tents/huts/buildings. As they search their surroundings they discover barracks, repair facility, mess hall, and a refueling facility. While searching a lone blaster bolt strikes Arc and catches him unaware. It must have come from the igloo-shaped cantina. Unfortunately, that wound was for nothing as nobody found anything of any real value in their search of the premises.

Just as Gresbu and Arc emerge from a hut, a stun grenade explodes at their feet. Joe Montana must have been inside that bar. They fall to the ground stunned and unable to move. BC runs to their aid and is able to pull them back into the hut for partial cover.

In an act of heroism, BC runs-n-guns toward the Igloo in a feat of rage dodging blaster bolts along the way. Seeing BC make it safely to the cantina, LE-19 rushes to meet him. They quickly scout the perimeter. There are no windows and they survey the roof. There is only one entrance in and out of this building, looks like the bounty hunters are trapped inside.

Gresbu and Arc hobble to their feet, still feeling the affects of the stun grenade and make their to the Igloo. LE-19 mentions that he saw a power generator on the outside of the building during his search. He will go and try to disable the generator to flush them out. Meanwhile, the rest of the group shoot random bolts into the cantina to keep the bounty hunters occupied.

After several attempts, despite LE-19’s mechanical ability, he is unsuccessful in disabling the generator. Therefore, he destroys it.

Gresbu has an idea. During his search of the of the facilities, he noticed a few barrels of fuel. He asks for some help to roll a barrel over to the cantina. Without much effort Arc and Gresbu are able to get a barrel to the igloo. They open the door, fire a few shots into the cantina, and tip the barrel over spilling the fuel on the floor. As they run away from the barrel, they shoot one blaster bolt into the fuel setting it ablaze. We’re going to smoke ’em out!

We prepare for the inevitable attack. Sure enough, a grenade flies through the flames in our direction and detonates away from anyone. Shortly thereafter, a flurry of blaster bolts shoot through the flames. We then see someone trying to hop over the burning barrel through the flames and they’re easily dispatched. After a few more minutes without any activity, we assume that our job is though.

We wait a few more minutes to allow the flames to die down. LE-19 offers to investigate the cantina first as he is not bothered by the smoke, which still hasn’t cleared. He cautiously enters and hollers the “all clear” minutes later. All enemies have perished in the fire.

As the group enters, they notice that nothing much remains inside the building. The fire has damaged nearly everything of value. After spending several minutes searching around, they discover a, luckily, fire-proof safe inside of the manager’s office.

They’re able to open the safe and discover in the contents:

  • Hand-held computer
  • 2,000 cr
  • Signed paperwork (unknown origin)
  • Food rations
  • 10 blaster pistols
  • 9 sets of power armor

We gather the supplies in the safe and make our way back to town, picking up the three Twi’Leks who subdued the guards.
